In a previous news article, we showcased Professor Paul Freeman’s pioneering research on Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). If you missed it, you can catch up here
In this article, we’re focusing on surgical options for intervertebral disc extrusion - essential when conservative management for IVDD isn’t an option.
Take Frankie, a 2 year-old Dachshund diagnosed on MRI scan with a disc extrusion, causing severe compression of his spinal cord. Frankie was prepped for surgery and our Specialist Clinical Neurologist, Dr Georgina Harris, then carefully removed the extruded disc material from the spinal canal. Frankie is now home with his devoted owners, on strict crate rest and is being closely monitored for neurological recovery.
Georgina said "Frankie is doing well and went home a few days after the surgery, so we are very happy with the outcome. His prognosis for a full recovery is very good."
Frankie’s case is a perfect example of how expert surgical intervention can make a life-changing difference for pets suffering from IVDD.
