The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital

The start of 2026 has brought with it some lovely new beginnings for our Farm Team, including the delivery of a new calf born on Christmas Day.

You may remember the recent story of Andre, a calf born at a client’s farm following an out-of-hours visit. Quick-thinking farmers recognised that something wasn’t right during calving, and a uterine torsion - an emergency situation requiring immediate veterinary intervention - was diagnosed. Thanks to prompt action, the calf was delivered safely via a caesarean section.

Now, as this updated photo shows, Andre - the larger of the two calves,  is thriving and settling into his new start to the year. He’s pictured here keeping warm alongside his new best friend, 'Aviator' - a new calf born on Christmas day - both named in keeping with the farm’s tradition of using names with the same first letter for a year. The pair have quickly become inseparable, marking the beginning of a special friendship as 2026 gets underway.

Both calves are now being hand-reared and bottle-fed by the farmer and one of our valued farm clients, Louise, whose dedication and care are giving them the very best start in life.

Happy New Year to all of our clients - from the whole QVSH Community!
