Meet Butler, a 10-year-old Beagle who suddenly became critically unwell after collapsing in the garden. Imaging revealed abdominal free fluid and gas, and he was quickly confirmed to be septic. Further investigation showed an abnormal area around the caecum, prompting urgent exploratory surgery.
Our Soft Tissue Surgery Team discovered the cause, a mass on his caecum, which was successfully removed in its entirety. A G-tube was also placed to support nutrition during his recovery.
After just 4 days in hospital, Butler showed remarkable improvement, demonstrating true fighting spirit, and was discharged home.
He returned last week for a follow up check, behaving completely normally, fully healed, with both staples and G-tube now removed... allowing him to continue his recovery at home.
Well done to the expertise, quick decision-making, and compassionate care of the Soft Tissue Surgery Team, together with whole extended team at the QVSH, who gave Butler the very best chance to live a full life again.
