Nina the miniature schnauzer was more than a patient - she was part of our QVSH family. Over the years, she came to us with a number of complex health problems: heart disease, cancer tumours and, most recently, kidney failure.
Nina’s owner, Ian Bullock, said, “We were referred to the QVSH by our vet in Norwich when Nina was diagnosed with a severe heart murmur. She underwent two heart procedures for pulmonic stenosis in 2014 and 2016, which definitely helped to prolong her life and gave us so many happy years with Nina.
“The treatment we received from the QVSH was amazing. Everyone was so kind, caring and professional. And the clinical teams continued to support Nina throughout her life - treating her in clinic, carrying out operations, reviewing her annually, keeping in close touch with me through numerous calls and emails, and advising our local vets right to the very end. Nina and the QVSH even exchanged Christmas cards!
“Nina was definitely part of the QVSH family - and the care and attention we received was second to none. I have nothing but positive memories of our visits and all the fantastic staff and students we met at the hospital during Nina’s lifetime.”
Nina sadly passed away in May 2025, but her story reminds us that veterinary care isn’t only about fixing symptoms - it’s about walking alongside pets and their families through every stage of life.
We’re proud to have been there for Nina in the good times and the hard ones. And we’re honoured to have picked her up when she needed it, giving her more time with her family and being there to provide advice and expertise at the end, when the time was right to say goodbye.
Check out this lovely film of Nina’s most recent birthday - you’ll see why she meant so much to her family and became such a firm favourite at the QVSH.
Thanks to Ian for providing us with his own photos and this lovely story of Nina's journey. Some lovely memories of Nina that we are sure he will treasure!
