At the heart of The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital, you will find our Veterinary Nurses and Assistant staff, a fantastic group supporting our admitting and clinical support services, caring for patients in our wards, assisting with procedures in our specialised theatres, and helping with clinical research.
The specific roles they play will vary and no two days are the same, but some of the nursing tasks performed include cannula placement, drain maintenance, urinary catheter placement and maintenance, medication calculation, dispensing and administration, anaesthetic monitoring, collecting and administering blood transfusions, scheduled drug recording, creating rotas, writing clinical notes, grooming/bathing, intensive care nursing, triaging emergencies, tube feeding, monitoring and recording vital signs and much more!
Each patient is nursed and cared for with compassion, empathy and determination throughout their hospitalisation, ensuring they are treated to the highest standard of care. We are proud to care for each pet as if they are our own. This can sometimes be emotionally demanding but it presents daily rewards when patients are successfully discharged to their owners, thanks to the expertise and care of the whole team.
