SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: £27,820.00

The Scholarship is for one year in the first instance, renewable for periods of one year up to a total of three years.

The Scholarship provides an outstanding opportunity to receive specialist training in all aspects of small animal cardiology and is available to start from December 2024.

You will receive core training in all aspects of clinical cardiology, including interventional procedures and transoesophageal echocardiography. You will also be required to undertake and publish a research project. The training programme is approved by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA).

The Scholar will be required to register for the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. The training programme requires participation in the Department's clinical service, including the out-of-hours rota and first opinion practice, in addition to small-group teaching of veterinary students.

You must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or hold a veterinary degree qualifying you for membership. Membership will be required prior to commencing the Scholarship. Completion of an appropriate internship or a minimum of two years' experience in small animal practice is essential.

The Department of Veterinary Medicine would like to appoint a highly motivated Research Laboratory Technician to provide technical support for research activity in order to ensure the smooth running of the Biomineral Research Facility. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge research environment while making a meaningful impact.

The Biomineral Research Group endeavours to unravel the intricate ways in which minerals influence both health and pathology, aiming to leverage this knowledge for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes, including through engineered mineral structures. Diseases of special interest to the Group are cancer and autoimmune/inflammatory disorders. Recent work focused on improving understanding of cell exposure to titanium dioxide (E171) in humans (Curr Opin Toxicol. 2020 Feb:19:112-120).

The successful candidate will have practical experience of laboratory research and strong organisational skills. ICP-MS analysis will be the major technique employed, but there will also be opportunities to work with collaborators in confocal microscopy and other analytical and imaging techniques.

This is a full time, fixed term position. The funds for this post are available until August 2025 in the first instance. We have an exciting opportunity to join a small friendly team in the Department of Veterinary Medicine. The main focus of the role, will be to provide technical assistance to the post mortem room manager in all aspects of the work including cleaning, safety and setting up of classes for teaching.

Candidates should have a good general education, (GCSE level)/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent level of practical experience, experience of working with cutting instruments is essential and candidates ideally should have experience of working in an abattoir, butchery or post mortem room, however training and learning whilst in the role will be possible for the right candidate.

Applicants should be customer focussed with a can-do attitude, be able to work with minimal supervision, have a knowledge of Health and Safety issues relating to working in a post mortem room and will need to be passionate about cleanliness and bio security. We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a 24/7 Veterinary Care Assistant, on a temporary basis, in our Small Animal Wing. The referral hospital is a very fast-paced environment working with complex and seriously ill animals.

The main objective of the role is to provide animal care to an excellent standard for the Queen's Veterinary School referral Hospital, to meet the needs of the service in the Small Animal Wing. The Small Animal Wing consists of four dog, two cat, critical care, isolation wards housing an average of 15-25 patients during the overnight period and Theatre Suite.

You will play an important part in a primary care team working alongside nurses and other veterinary care assistants. Responsibilities will include cleaning and animal care duties in order to assist veterinary nurses in the inpatient area and in theatres.

Scholarship Award: £18,370.00 per annum including accommodation

You will be required to register with the ECVDI for the Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging. The training programme requires participation in the Department's clinical service, including the out-of-hours rota and first opinion clinic, in addition to small-group teaching of veterinary students. You will also be expected to participate in research projects as part of your training.

You must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or hold a veterinary degree qualifying you for membership. Completion of a recognised internship or a minimum of two years' experience in small animal practice is essential.

The Queens Veterinary School Hospital (QVSH) is a teaching and a referral hospital whose aims are to provide a comprehensive and demonstrably excellent clinical service across a range of species and disciplines for clients, undergraduate and postgraduate students and the veterinary profession in general. We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Nurse to join our First Opinion team at QVSH.

The role of First Opinion Nurse at the QVSH is varied, with tasks including general nursing, client communication, registering animals and booking appointments. It will involve supporting and liaising with Vets, Nurses, Students, and support staff in both the small animal wards and theatre.

The First Opinion Nurse will provide an efficient, co-ordination and collaborative nursing service to an excellent standard for the QVSH, managing an increased case load and research activities, to meet the needs of the service. They will work as part of the First Opinion team to provide supervision and case co-ordination of first opinion cases, medical nursing and administration duties linked to each case, perform nursing duties within the appropriate discipline and be expected to participate in occasional on call and weekend duties on a rota basis.

Triage and appropriate referral of cases from the RSPCA clinic will be required, as well as tasks such as dispensing medications, registering animals and booking appointments. General practice duties including locking and unlocking the practice, stock management, tidying and cashing up at the end of the day will also be carried out by this role.

There will be aspects of management of accurate pricing, invoicing and case finances with liaison internally and with several charities and 3rd parties.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same, so we are seeking individuals with a passion for nursing, with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, students and clients. The ability to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision is essential.

Could you be our new team member? We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our nursing team at the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital as a Specialist Nurse working as part of the Oncology team.

This is a permanent, full time position (36.5 hours a week) with a 36 day annual leave entitlement. The post holder is entitled to join the Cambridge University Assistants Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The Oncology service is a key part of our multidisciplinary referral hospital, and requires close communication with the other clinical services. We are a dedicated team of clinicians and nurses who are committed to providing the best care for our patients and honouring the human animal bond. We have a busy and variable caseload, which will require you to be adaptable, an excellent communicator and have the ability to work well under pressure.

The successful applicant may not have existing oncology related skills but will have a willingness to learn, and a passion about delivering great patient centred care. Your role will include specialist Oncology consultations, diagnostic investigations and treatments, including the use of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, photodynamic therapy, immunotherapy in the management of referred cases. You will be responsible for running chemotherapy clinics, including handling and administering chemotherapy drugs and discussing treatments with owners and veterinarians. You will be involved in the delivery of radiotherapy and with the care of inpatients receiving chemotherapy. You will also have an opportunity to be involved with ethically approved, clinical research. Any necessary training will be tailored to you and delivered in a supportive and structured way by experienced colleagues on site. Further didactic training is encouraged.

The Senior Clinical Training Scholarship in Small Animal Medicine is available, to start on 1 July 2024. The training programme covers all aspects of small animal medicine, including cardiology, oncology, medical neurology, diagnostic imaging and clinical pathology, and is approved by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

The Scholar will be required to register for the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
