As we celebrate Tanya's 40th anniversary at The Queens Veterinary School Hospital, we reflect on the remarkable journey of a dedicated veterinary nurse whose passion and commitment have left an indelible mark on our hospital. Tanya's career, which began at the young age of 17, is a testament to her love for veterinary medicine and education.
Tanya recalls her early days, "I felt extremely privileged to have found my dream job aged just 17 but never dreamt it would be my one and only! I can honestly say it has been a pleasure to work in Veterinary education for my whole career.
"I love teaching practical nursing skills to our student vets and nurses in the dedicated teaching hospital. No two days are ever the same which keeps my work interesting and challenging. Veterinary medicine has changed and evolved massively over my time in the profession and will continue to do so. Advances in surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, and treatment protocols ensure my knowledge is constantly progressing.”
Reflecting on her career, Tanya is quick to acknowledge the supportive colleagues around her, "I am truly grateful to all my colleagues who make our hospital wards the best place to work."
Tanya's nursing manager and long-time colleague and friend Sharon, has shared the journey with her, and offers her heartfelt congratulations, "Tanya and I have been nursing colleagues for 40 years, all at Queens! We have experienced a number of major and minor building projects (and all the frustrations that brings) together with reorganisations of staff structures. In the early days we partied with the students, went on holiday together, skydived to save the Vet School in the 80s, and met the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh during the 90s. We have laughed our way through the challenges of a variety of non-standard patients (force feeding the boa constrictor comes to mind!) and cried together when we helped the passage of our much-loved pets into the playpen beyond.
"Where has the time gone? Now we chat about retirement plans and that's the great thing - we chat and not just about work. Tanya is a highly skilled nurse and valued colleague who is a key cog in the nursing team and who works with and supports all. Very many Congratulations for this notable milestone."
Tanya's career is not just a personal achievement but a significant chapter in the history of The Queens Veterinary School Hospital. Her dedication, expertise, and passion have set a high standard for excellence in veterinary nursing and education. Congratulations, Tanya, on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Your journey is a shining example of commitment and an inspiration to us all!
