The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital

Rue was referred to the QVSH as an emergency after sustaining a stick injury. An ultrasound scan of the neck revealed a linear foreign body within the neck, just at the base of the larynx (opening to the airway). Rue was taken to surgery the same day and a large (approximately 10cm long!) piece of stick was removed. The wound was flushed to remove any fragments of stick and infectious debris.Rue was hospitalised post-operatively in our surgical wards to manage a wound drain that was placed to management fluid build-up following surgery.

We are pleased to report that after several weeks of recovery Rue is back to her lively self!  The QVSH allows 24/7 emergency referrals with the advantage of round the clock, on-site veterinary staffing to ensure continuity of care and monitoring. We are thankful to Rue's lovely and dedicated owners for allowing us to share her story and sending us some wonderful updates on her progress.
