Associate Principal Oncologist

Dr Alison Hayes is an EBVS European and RCVS Recognised Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Oncology and a European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM) Foundation Diplomate. Alison is an Associate Teaching Professor and holds the post of Associate Principal Oncologist. Alison is responsible for running the referral oncology clinics at the Queens Veterinary School Hospital at the University of Cambridge, is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Authority, a supervisor for the ECVIM Oncology residency programme, a member of the Scientific Committee for the European Society of Veterinary Oncology (ESVONC) and ECVIM congresses, and former ESVONC treasurer.

Alison graduated from the University of Glasgow and after five years in primary care practice undertook the inaugural Blue Cross Residency in Oncology at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket and Master’s degree in Clinical Oncology (distinction) at the Medical School, University Birmingham. Alison remained at the Trust as Senior Clinical Oncologist and after a period of time working in the charitable sector for national children’s charity, Alison joined the University of Cambridge in 2020. As well as all things oncological, Alison has a strong interest in veterinary education, human factors and communication, and is the Clinical Skills Champion for the Pauline Brown Clinical Skills Centre at the QVSH.

Alison is co-chair of the Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance Group at the QVSH and has recently completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education (distinction) at the Institute for Continuing Education, University of Cambridge. Alison is a Veterinary Student Clinical Supervisor (VSCS) at Magdalene College, Cambridge.
