After graduating from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Lisbon (Portugal) in 2003, Joel spent five years in general practice in Portugal where he developed a special interest in cardiology. He then enrolled a three-year residency in cardiology in a joint collaboration between the Clinica Veterinaria Gran Sasso (Italy) and the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital at the University of Cambridge becoming European Specialist in Cardiology in 2014 and recognised RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology in 2015. Soon after completing his residency Joel became a consultant in cardiology at North Downs Specialist Referrals in Surrey and in 2019 joined the cardiology team at the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital.
Special interests
My clinical and research areas of interest are congenital heart disease and interventional cardiology.
